Instrument Calibration, Training and Using Approved Conductive Gel

The Importance of Correct Instrument Calibration and
Proper Training With An Approved Program

Animal Therapy Systems is the exclusive distributor of the Animal Calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System.  Presently, there are only two calibrations of these instruments available, which are human calibrated instruments and animal calibrated instruments.  While others may tell you that specific calibration is not important, that is absolutely not true.  The biofeedback system being used by the human calibrated instruments is neither correct nor precise when interacting with animal tissue.  The results and responses will not be nearly as effective as when the animal calibrated instruments are utilized, therefore the treatment is undoubtedly compromised when using a human calibrated instrument on animal tissue.

The animal calibrated Acuscope & Myopulse instruments far surpass the human instruments in their ability to fine tune the muscles, tendons, ligaments, facia, and nervous system of the animal.  The correct calibration is necessary in order to obtain faster and far superior results with this therapy system.  These instruments have been specifically designed to interface with the animal anatomy as well as their unique metabolism and physiology.  In order to treat patients properly and optimize results, the calibration is a very important factor. This is something that should definitely be taken into consideration when choosing a Certified Animal Acuscope Therapist to work on your animal, or when choosing to become an ATS Certified Animal Acuscope Therapist yourself.

Animal Therapy Systems is also the pioneer and founder of the ORIGINAL Equine and Canine Acuscope Training/Certification Program.  This program is the most established, complete, and extensive veterinarian approved Animal Acuscope educational program being offered today.  This program was introduced in 1990 and includes several levels of certification.  Each member of the ATS Instructor Team brings over 250 combined years of experience and education in the animal health and wellness field to this program, and the members of the ATS Instructor Team have OVER 70 COMBINED YEARS OF ANIMAL ACUSCOPE EXPERIENCE ALONE!  When working with Animal Therapy Systems, you can be confident that you are not only coming to the right place to purchase properly calibrated instruments, but that you are also coming to the right place to learn.

Be sure your therapist is using animal calibrated instruments, is trained properly and using approved conductive gel to achieve the best results for your animal.

The Importance Of Using Approved Conductive Gel

A study completed by the manufacturer shows that only one conductive electrolyte gel provides optimum results with the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System. Therapists should not be using any other gel (ie: ultrasound gel) as it will compromise treatment. This gel is the only one that I will use during therapy sessions. Results of the study are below.

The greater the electrical conductivity (or, the lesser the electrical resistance of the gel), the greater the effectiveness of this coupling at the electrode-tissue interface, both for monitoring and for delivering pulses of electrical current for electrotherapeutic purposes. If the conductivity of the electrolyte gel at the electrode-tissue interface is not very high, it will be absorbed into the outermost layer of dead cells (called the stratum corneum), but the electrical resistance of the skin will end up being higher than if a more effective gel were used. This situation requires a higher pulse voltage to drive the same current through the tissue, and it could conceivably cause the patient to experience a "prickling" sensation in small regions of the skin where the current density may be unusually high. This can be alleviated by a highly conductive gel if it is absorbed into the stratum corneum in a fashion that causes the current density under the electrode surface to be more evenly distributed.

  • The specific characteristics of the FDA approved conductive gel that I use optimizes the effectiveness of the treatments for your animal.

  • This conductive gel has been developed for animal therapy and allows the ability to reject noise under the electrodes, affects impedance in the area under the electrodes, and eliminates distortion with the biofeedback system that is an integral function of these instruments.

  • Solutions or gels not approved for use with these instruments do not work well with the biofeedback system. They have been known to overproduce or diminish the average response which will alter the effectiveness of treatment and may even harm your animal.
